Newbie needing guidance

Hi, I'm new to this so please bare with me. Years ago I used to compose on a package called Sonix (by Aegis on the Amiga) in which you'd create a score and attach instruments to part. These instruments were samples, whose pitch was altered depending on the note and octave in the score. Essentially, I'm after the same kind of deal - can musescore import such samples (are they called virtual instruments these days?) and then export the score with the samples into .wav / ogg vorbis as opposed to always using the built in software synthesiser? So I could export a song with sampled drums/horns etc?

Hope this question is clear, I'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks

Are you asking if MuseScore can read Sonix files? I don't know if Sonix can export to MusicXML or MIDI, but if so that would be the way to go. See [[nodetitle:Export]] for more details.

No, not really. I'm trying to ascertain two things:

1. LIke the old Sonix package on the Amiga, can the PC use samples which are then played back as instruments? ie you load a sample, attach it to the score, the PC then plays back the music with that instrument.
2. If so, can Musescore do this? If not what other packages can?

Thanks!

MuseScore does not work with sound sample but with Soundfont . Basically a soundfont is one file containing samples and the soundfont engine in musescore use them to play all the notes, or directly or with a manipulation to make the sample sounds higher or lower. You can create a soundfont with your sample with a soundfont editor such as Viena.

I don't know any desktop notation software that can play a score based on i.e. wav sample directly.
If you liked sonix you may be able to run it in an Amiga emulator on a PC.
