Ability to play fermatas
I would like the fermata to be able to suspend the meter for a definable period of time. I am currently writing a piece that makes use of fermatas on rests. It definitely does violence to the feel of the music to just play the rest through instead of pausing as the fermata is meant to indicate.

As an ugly workaround you can use a tempo text on the rest below the fermata. Create a tempo text, set his midi property to something low to simulate a long "rest" and make the text invisible. Don't forget to put another tempo text on the next note to get back to normal tempo.
The current trunk version of MuseScore plays fermatas. The extended duration of a fermata rest/chord can be configured.
So watch for the next stable version.

How do I use the fermatas (using the latest nightly builds )? They don't seem to have an effect for me.

Hi Werner,
I've got Version 1.0 now. I don't see where in the options for fermatas you can configure their duration. Is there an instruction page for this?
Regards,
Geoff

Fermatas playback is not in 1.0. It will be in next major release.

I tried Nightly Build on windows, and building from trunk on Ubuntu, but couldn't get mscore to play fermatas on neither of them.
Am I missing something?
Thanks
I'm using 1.3 on Win 7. Is there any progress on the fermata issue? I hate that the playback just blows thru them w/o extending the duration. I have an issue w/ breath marks as well, w/ playback not pausing for them.

Fermats do Play in the nightly builds, so will be in the next major version, they have a configurable stretch, default is none (1).

I am using 2.0.0. for mac and fermata doesn't seem to play, i.e., it plays the normal duration even after I added a fermata to the note. Am I missing something??

Did you change its stretch?
Also consider upgrading to 2.0.1

Fermata works so fine into MuseScore 2.0.1 (on Win XP SP3 and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bits)!!!
I would say if u are using fermatas, Probably take the tempo to half of the tempo you are using

Actually, that's an outdated and unnecessary workaround. In MuseScore 2, no such workaround is needed; just click on the fermata and set its "Time stretch" property in the Inspector.
