Whenever I work on complex pieces of music on Musescore, sometimes it "bogs down", meaning the tempo slows down and a nasty sound is produced. I am using Marimba on Musescore 2.0.1. here's a vid of the problem.

People have reported this issue before (see, for example, #67851: Glitchy noises produced in an instant after starting playback, from just this morning). So far, it's been very difficult to determine why it sometimes happens. Would you be willing to follow up by testing out a possible solution? It's possible that your computer simply can't keep up with the default SoundFont. Please try following the instructions at https://musescore.org/en/node/67356#comment-308331 and let us know if that fixes the problem. Thanks!

Nope. It made the problem worse. Now the nasty sound begins at an easier place in the song, and the echo of the Nastiness continues on for longer. Thanks for the help!

In order to have any chance of helping, we would need you to post the specific score you are having problems with and precise step by step instructions to reproduce the problem. It would also help to know your sound settings - what soundfont is loaded in View / Synthesizer, what your settings are in Edit / Preferences / I/O, anything relevant about the sound hardware and/or software on your computer, etc. Also say what OS, what CPU etc. Could be it's just a matter of your system becoming too bogged down overall and needing a reboot, more RAM freed up, etc.

Just throwing out ideas here: also in the Synthesizer window there is a tab called "Master Effects". By default, "Effect A" should be set to "Zita1". Does switching that to "NoEffect" make any difference?

Alright. Time for Information. Switching to NoEffect helped slightly. The problem occurs on multiple scores, so i will publish one of them. Soundfont is FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3. Under I/0, PortAudio is selected with API as MME and Device as Microsoft Sound Mapper- Output.

I have DELL audio as an audio software.
I'm running Windows 8.1. 12GB RAM(9GB Free). CPU is Intel i5 at 3.10GHz.

I'm going to try rebooting my computer

Hard to say. We still don't really know what caused the problem. It could have been some compeltely unrelated process hogging the CPU. If it happens again, maybe run task manager to see if anything looks out of control and shut it down. But sometimes, it's a Windows component itself that starts hogging the CPU.

If the problem shows up again, would you try one more thing for me? The GeneralUser SoundFont I suggested trying is not actually the most lightweight option—that would be TimGM6mb (lower down on that list). It sounds rather less realistic, but it's much, much smaller. It's still possible that that would work. If so, it would be nice to know—perhaps the text on that page (https://musescore.org/en/node/36171#list) could include the information "(recommended if playback is struggling)" or something like that.
