Rest Lengths
How can I change the rests that are placed in a bar based on the amount of space there is to a different way of saying the same value? For example, I have a bar where I have three sixteenth note rests in a row. How can I change this to be a dotted eighth rest?
Comments
Click on the first rest. Use shortcuts for note/rest lengths - in this case 4 followed by dot.

Okay. To change three sixteenth rests into a dotted eighth rest, step by step:
1. Click on the first sixteenth rest.
2. Hit [4] to turn it into an eighth rest.
3. Hit [.] to turn it into a dotted eighth rest.
As the duration increases, it overwrites the other sixteenth rests following it. Clear?
EDIT: I've added this to the Handbook: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input#change-duration

yes, got it! thank you so much!
You can enter rests exactly like you enter notes: first select the duration (using either the duration icons in the toolbar or the shortcuts that appear when you hover over them), then type the name of the note or rest. For notes, you type the actual letter name ("A", "B", "C", etc); for rests, you simply type "0". So, to get a dotted quarter *note*, you would select dotted quarter as your duration by pressin the quarter note icon then the dot icon *or* by typing "5 .", then type the letter name of the note (eg, "C"). To get a dotted quarter *rest*, you do *exactly* the same, except you type "0" instead of "C".
