adding lyrics for bass notes
In the verse of a hymn, can I write lyrics that follow the bass notes. I am using vista and version 9.6. I have tried several times to download the new version but I can't get my computer to accept it.

What do you mean by bass notes? You can add lyrics to any note by clicking the notehead and press Ctrl + L

What do you mean by "I' can't get my computer to accept it"? What happens? Do you get error messages?
