Fractional beat length measures
I wish to the attached a tune, which begins with a measure 1/2 beat in length and ends with a measure 7/8 beat in length. Is this possible with Muse Score 2? Is there a work around? PDF attached.

Sorry, never occurred to me that the part greyed out in the menu could be modified. Tried it, it worked, many thanks.

What exactly are you seeing greyed out? The "Actual duration" in the measure properties should never be greyed out.

The number of beats of actual duration is not greyed out, but the changeability of the nominal number of beats is indicated only by a little whitish border around the button.
I have always been taught that 4/4 time is 4 beats to a measure, the idea that I might be able to tell Muse score that I wished it to be treated as 8 beats to the measure never occurred to me, and I didn't notice the subtle shading around the button.
I am autistic, and I have a variety of perceptual problems, but now that I see the border of the second button in the actual duration menu, I will look for similar things elsewhere in Muse Score when I have difficulty.
Thanks for your understanding.

Molto grazie! You guys have been very good to me, and MuseScore 2 is awesome, much better than I used to use.
I have a similar problem. Working in 9/8 time and I want a pickup measure with three beats but neither the pickup measure menu (accessed when setting up the tune) nor the measure properties menu allow me to accomplish this. There must be some simple workaround.

Yes, just like that. Thank you.

For anyone else wondering - three eighth notes is 3/8 - that's what to enter in the dialog. Or just take a normal measure and remove the other beats by selecting them and pressing Ctrl+Delete (then go to Measure Properties to make sure it is excluded from the measure count).
