Get a strange background sound
System Info:
MuseScore: 0.92
HW: ASUS EEE 900
OS: Ubuntu 8.1
Sound Font: /usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GM.sf2
After a lot of reading on this forum, I finally managed to get the Navigator buttons to appear and work. Problem now is I get a background sound that can be best described as a “machine gun”. The notes are audible on playback but drowned by the background sound (noise!).
1.How do I get rid of this sound?
2.Is there simple sound font available (small size) – I only need a guitar or piano sound since I am writing music for classical guitar? I am have limited diskspace on the ASUS sub-notebook.
Note
1. on startup I get the following messages:
Suspending PulseAudio
fluidsynth: warning: Failed to pin the sample data to RAM; swapping is possible.
2. I tried to use /usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GS.sf2 but got no sound at all
Comments
1. When i play one note at a time there is a lot of reverb and echo. I believe this then causes a feedback effect when multiple notes are played.
2. I downloaded a simple guitar sf2 file that works but the background noise remains an issue.
Try to upgrade first to MuseScore 0.9.3 or later.
The sound problem you describe has not been posted on the MuseScore forum yet. And since I'm a windows user, I wont be able to reproduce it. Regarding the soundfonts, I can't help any further unfortunately.

I have tried upgrading both from synaptic and directly from the browser both times it installed 0.9.2.
Synaptic indicates that both installed and latest version are 0.9.2+dfsg-3 - note i have reloaded the repositories as well as done a apt-get update.
