Mute Playback if it is written.
You can write con sord or whatever in a part and it will use a mute on the insturment.

Ciao The Flamethrower Man, have you already seen Change and adjust sounds in the handbook?
In particular https://musescore.org/en/handbook/change-and-adjust-sounds-0#mid-staff-… .Perhaps it suits your needs
Sadly this is beyond the scope of the default soundfont, the only instrument to have a mute sound is trumpet.
Maybe one day we will get the samples to be able to implement this.
