Hello there,

it seems that in 0.9.6 (revision 2613) shipping with Ubuntu 10.04, the MIDI keyboard function is broken. I tried with a Korg Nano Key USB-MIDI toy as well as with my Kawai stage piano via a M-Audio USB Uno, both of which feel happy with controlling other software such as ZynAddSubFX.

When I enter notes via MIDI, the asterisk on the document's tab flashes up to mark that a change has been made, but nothing happens to the score. Then, when I type a note on the keyboard, e.g. "c" or space bar for pause, all of a sudden a couple of the previously entered MIDI notes will appear.

I don't exactly know what's going on. This looks like a bug. Let me know what kind of other info I could provide to help you.

Best

It looks like you are using an early beta version of MuseScore 0.9.6. I recommend upgrading to the latest stable version (see the download page of this website for instructions on obtaining the "Ubuntu Stable Backports". Come back if you still have trouble.

Thank you very much. Problem solved.

To summarize: The MuseScore version that currently comes with Ubuntu 10.04 has a bug in the MIDI support. Notes cannot be entered properly using a MIDI keyboard. Using the Backports version from Launchpad solves the problem and gives you a more recent version of MuseScore even.
