How to use plug ins after I download them?
Hi,
I'm new to using Musescore 2.0 and I wanted a button whereby I could check automatically for parallel fifths and octaves, among other things, perhaps. I found a 'plugin', downloaded it into my Downloads folder, and then went to my score, clicked on Plugins, yet couldn't find anything. How do you use plug ins after you download them?
Thanks,
Jonathan

See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/plugins-0. Chances are the plugin you found is for 1.X and hasn't been ported to 2.0 yet

It is for 2.0, https://musescore.org/en/project/checkparallels .
Yet I'm still not getting it, after reading the manual. Where I get tripped up is when I click download, it asks me where I want to save it. Where should I? What should I type in? Clumsily, I copied " %ProgramFiles%\MuseScore 2\Plugins" from the above site. But nothing happened.

For 2.0 plugins:
1. Download the plugin, usually this will be a .zip-file
2. Extract the contents of the zip in "My Documents\MuseScore2\Plugins"
for this plugin a folder called "heuchi-checkParallels-fd1bf72" is created
3. Launch the Plugin Manager in MuseScore
4. Tick the checkbox before "checkParallels" and click OK
5. Use the plugin from the menu "Plugins->Proof Reading->Check for parallel 5ths/8ves"

Hi,
Thanks for your help, but still nothing.
When you say
"2. Extract the contents of the zip in "My Documents\MuseScore2\Plugins"
for this plugin a folder called "heuchi-checkParallels-fd1bf72" is created"
what do you mean in laymen's terms? I assumed you meant save it to that path, which I did, and then open up the folders which say 'check parallel 5ths' (approximately). When I tried to open the QML file it says I need to search the Store in order to find an app to open the file.
I didn't know what to do, so re launched Musescore and did #3 above, but there was no button there as mentioned in #4 above.
Thanks,
Jon

The plugin download is a zip-file; this is a compressed archive of the plugin. In order for MuseScore to be able to use the files, the archive must be uncompressed.
Given you're talking about the Store, I'm guessing you're using Windows 10?
In that case, see this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/zip-and-unzip-files#v1h=t…

Now it's not working again. Back on January 9th I got it to work by unzipping the folder into the location you mentioned above, then launched the plugin manager, etc, and found the button. But now it won't work. Any ideas?

Hard to say, nothng changed in MuseScore, so somehow you, must not be doing exactly what you did before. Be sure to follow the instructins precisely.
