Is it possible to merge instrument parts from different files?
Here is what I am trying to do.
I start with an orchestral score; this is a piece I am composing and not a musical example for a book.
After composing part of it, I do "save as" to copy it into another file. In the new file, I delete everything except the strings. In this way I can concentrate on revising the string section parts and have playback of only that section.
Then I want to merge the revised string section back into the original score.
One possibility is to make another "save as" destination file and delete the strings.
Then I have one file with the string section and another file with all of the other instruments, and the question is how to merge them.
Alternatively, is there a way that I can choose a group of instruments and temporarily display, edit and play back just those instruments and bring back the other instruments later?
Thank you for any suggestions.

Something which would do part of what you are suggesting would be to highlight the measures in one file and then Copy them. Then open the second file and click onto the first measure you want to begin to fill and Paste. If there are not yet staves for the instruments you are adding, you will first need to add instruments to the instrument list.
Regardless, this is not always entirely satisfactory because the copy and paste process ignores things like dynamic markings and text entries. But it may afford a partial solution for you.
Regarding selective playback, open Display/Mixer and click Solo for only the staves you wish to hear.
Hope this helps.
