Deleting instrument notations in new Musescore

• Feb 23, 2011 - 02:50

In the previous version of Musescore, I found I could delete the instrument indications before each staff. For instance, if in creating a score I chose the instrument Voice, the score would have at the beginning of the first staff Voice and at the beginning of subsequent staffs Vo. But if I clicked on Voice or Vo. it was highlighted in blue, and I could delete it, so there was no instrument indication at the beginning of staffs. In Musescore 1.0 I find I can no longer do this. Is this deliberate? I hope not. I greatly valued this feature, once I found I could do it.

This has got to be the single most commonly asked question of late. Browse the forums (especially the support forum) and you'll see about 10 recent threads on this same topic. Bottom line you can still delete instrument names; it's just done differently (via staff properties).

I generally add, though, that it really shouldn't be common to need to do this at all. If you commonly create music that uses a single staff with voice sound but you don't want the word "voice" to display, fine - create a template set up exactly that way. Then you'll never have to select "voice" as your instrument again, nor will you ever have to delete the name again.
