How do I create space for lyrics?

I'm a fairly new user to MuseScore. I'm trying to write scores in hymn formats, where there is a space between the treble clef and the bass clef for multiple verses of lyrics. The first couple of scores I did were accompaniments for vocals, so I only had one lyric line, and no conflicting note stems in the space, but when I try to add lyrics to a normal SATB piano hymn-type accompaniment it just turns into a mess. Can anyone help? I've searched the online handbook to no avail. Thanks!

Hello, how did you add the lyrics to your score? When you add them using the Lyrics text function, MuseScore will automatic (based on settings) make space available for the text.

This will provide details on entering the lyrics.
If that does not help, can you please attach the score here so we can see your problem and help you out?
