Notating Instrument Doubling in a Single Part

• Feb 27, 2011 - 15:41

I have tried every way I know on MuseScore to solve this problem, but since nothing worked, I have to ask.
I want to be able to have a piano part, but in the middle of the score, notate it so that the piano switches to celesta in the same part. This way, I wouldn't have to use unnecessary space in writing a separate part for celesta. Does anyone know how this can be done?

Are you asking how to *notate* it, or how to get it to *playback* that way?

The former is easy - I'd just add a staff text that says "to celesta" or something to that effect. But to get it to play back that way would be harder. Probably you could customize the instruments.xml file to add an instrument that used multiple channels, like how the stringed instruments do that for arco versus pizzicato versus tremolo. Then hopefully those would show up under "staff text properties" when you right click the marking, as happens when you enter a marking on a string part.
