I'm using a 1920x1080 desk top and I'm finding it very difficult to see icons e.t.c.
is there a way (I cant find) of changing the UI size (apart from resizing the desk top)?

thank you

What OS are you on? How are you starting MuseScore - from a program icon, by double-clicking a file in a file browser, from the command line, etc? And are you saying 2.0.3 formerly worked differently? I can't imagine any way that installing a nightly build of 3.0 could affect how 2.0.3 behaves.

It's a very obscure option, shouldn't really be needed, so don't feel bad for missing it. I still want to understand how this happened. Normally MuseScore detects the resolution and everything works as it should. For reasons we don't always understand (although sopmetimes we do), sometimes we get the wrong resolution. Usually it's because of something unusual about the monitor configuration. So I still don't know why it is happening here.

For 3.0, there will be a new option "-D", better than "-x" for this purpose in that it will also control the scaling for the score itself. It is *supposed* to be the case that with zoom set to 100%, scores render "actual size" on screen - same physical size as the print. Normally in the cases where people are seeing wrong-size icons, they also see the score itself the wrong sizxe. "-x" won't change that, but "-D" will. Give it the actual DPI value for your monitor - number of pixels divided by size in inches.

If I'm reading that correctly you have a laptop with an internal screen of 1366x768 and connected to it over DVI an external monitor of 1920x1080 ?

If so that makes a bit of sense to me, as currently MuseScore uses the primary screens settings for scaling, which will likely be your internal laptop screen.

sorry to give the wrong impression - I have 2 computers, a laptop and a desktop, the desktop has an HD monitor and both v2 & v3 installed ; after the install of v3 the gui of both shrunk to a small size, the laptop only had v2 and was normal sized gui

Hmm.. the only reason for v3 to influence v2 is if your v2 was also a development/nightly build. v3 should very much stay out of all the settings of the official v2(.0.3) release. Can you confirm this?

If I remember correctly you should also be able to start MuseScore with the -d option. This will launch it in debug mode and during startup it will output a bunch of information about the detected display/screen resolution/size/dpi. That info could help in finding out what is going on.

I'm not computer literate and command prompts leave me right out of it. I just want to be able to see the icons and use the program comfortably. What is the next step?

First step is to tell us what version of MuseScore you are using, what OS you are on, and as much as you can about your monitor configuration - size, resolution, how it is connected, etc. As mentioned, you aren't supposed to need special options - it normally works fine. So we need to understand what is unusual about your case.

I have a 64 bit operating system using a Sony Bravia 32" TV as a monitor. I have never checked the resolution - what do TV sets work on? It plays HD TV excellently. It is connected with a standard monitor cable to a nearly new HP desktop. I tried the command line options -x, and --gui-scaling . The factor made no difference even at 100x.

The -d option had no effect either. The MuseScore is the latest version 2.0.3 downloaded about a week ago. The previous version was excellent.

Which system is this - in partiular, what size monitor, what resolution, how is it connected? We are still trying to understand the conditions that lead to this problem - it happens for only a very few people, and we don't know what makes their systems unusual.

Hi
This is the command: C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin\MuseScore.exe --gui-scaling <100> I have also tried C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin\MuseScore.exe -x
Screen resolution is 1920x1080, Windows 10 64 bit OS

@Steve, you should drop the less than & greater than symbols, also make sure to have quotation marks where needed. As for the -x option, it also needs the scaling parameter.

Note that 100 is *insanely* large, anything above 10 should normally not be required, most users that need this option are fine with anything between 1.5 and 4. 119726_scaling_parameter_cmdline.png

Thanks, JeeTee. It worked and all good now. Thanks so much for your advice.
One more thing - I closed the program and when I re-opened it the icons were small again.
Is there a way of making the change permanent so I don't have to open the program through Command Prompt each time?

Normally you'd be using some shortcut, either an Icon on the dektop or an enrey in the Programs menu. Do a right-click on that and add the -x stuff at the end of the .exe this shortcut refers to, the target of that shortcut

Opening the file location takes me to Program Files (x86) > MuseScore 2 > bin and MuseScore. there is no .exe (I have Windows 10). What should I add to the Application name?

of course there is a .exe, but Windows by default hides known extensions. Anyway, I'm talking about the target of the shortcut, not about 'opening the file location'.

"Here how it looks with ' -x 4' appended"

The icons in the screen without -x1 are about 25% of the size of the -x1application. When -x1 is applied the icons are what I remember in the previous version. Applying -x1.3 increases the size from -x1 by a further 75% at least and is too big.

Reported version 2.1 2.2

The tiny interface problem can be solved by creating a shortcut to the MuseScore EXE; just right click and choose Send to Desktop (create shortcut).

Then right-click the new shortcut and change the Target property to this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin\MuseScore.exe" -x1

...i.e., add the characters -X1 to the end of the target property.

Double-click the new shortcut to open MuseScore with a now usable interface.
My monitor is a huge TV.

Same. There is something unusual about my moni, though. It's a TV of a weird res and aspect ratio. Wasn't a problem in 2.0.3, and is now, in 2.3.2 (I believe)
