Will performance with Musesounds improve? Also laggy when pc is not overloaded.

I'm finding that working with musesounds activated makes the program quite laggy. my processor is a i7 - 7700K. When I am putting in notes at something like 2 notes per second the usage does go up to 100% after a couple of seconds but it's also quite unresponsive when just scrolling or just putting in one or a couple notes at a time while the processor is at like 20 - 50%. other components are: 16G of ddr4 ram 2400mhz, sata ssd, gtx 1060 (probably irrelavant I know). System was build in 2016, I only upgraded the processor.

Basically I'm wondering if this means there is something wrong with the program or it still has to do with hardware. (like it takes the pc longer to do stuff purely because the hardware can't be utilized quickly enough or something like that.)

So my question is really: Is it worth upgrading my hardware to run MS4 better and yes, what should I buy?
Maybe a processor with more cores? Will MS be updated for better performance?
