mention possible need of a factory reset on the nightly builds' download pages
The hint at the bottom of http://prereleases.musescore.org/windows/nightly/ (the same might be true for Mac and Linux) needs updating, a simple reset to factory now does the trick (since 6b04f488) and another recent change, from some time last week (2f5b22ab), makes it necessary once again.
The nightlies come with a batch file for this resets...

Can you give a text to replace the existing one?
I wouldn't mention a specific date (esp. none from2 years back ;-) ), just "if you experience a crash on startup, revert to factory settings by starting MuseScore via the batch file (filename)"
What the batch file filename? And does it work on all windows versions?
Just checked: special\revertToFactorySettings.bat
It should work on every Windows where the nightly.bat works too
Where is this "reverttofactorysettings.bat" in the home builds? Should it not be part of the source?
It is only in the nightly build, not in any home build. And I guess this who manage to build themselves know how to do a factory reset :-)

It is just using the -F option.
Is this BAT part of the standard distribution as well? If so, it should be part of the GIT codebase. It simplifies the reset process for users.
No it isn't (yet?) part of the code base, but part ot the modifications that are done only for nightly builds (another is to replace the splash screen)
It should be. Twould save some people much hassle in doing a reset, and now that -F functions properly again, I would certainly use it.
Seems to be needed on the nightly download page for Mac too, see #25794: Recent MuseScore Nightlies won't open on Mac OS 10.9.x

Proposed message:
if you experience a crash on startup, revert to factory settings by starting MuseScore using the -F option.
For Windows append:
or via the batch file (special\revertToFactorySettings.bat)
Not sure whether something similar exists for Mac, I'm pretty sure it does not for Linux.
The message is in place for windows, macos and linux.
