Musescore no longer recognises Sountfonts
Hi everybody, and thanks for developing and maintaining this excellent piece of software. I've encountered a problem where Musescore is no longer able to recognise any Soundfont (meaning, they don't show up in the "Sound" selection menu in the Mixer). I already had a few added since before and these were working just fine for months. Specifically these ones:
- SalamanderGrandPianoV3Retuned.sfz
- SalamanderGrandPianoV3.sfz
- Orgue de salon.sf2
- Petit Italien.sf2
- Blanchet-1720.sf2
Then, the other day, I added a few new ones by drag-and-dropping them into the MuseScore3/SoundFonts/ folder:
- SalC5Light2.sf2
- Sal-Stein-Uprights-Detailed-V3.0.sf2
- Yamaha-C5-Salamander-JNv5.1.sf2
Musescore wasn't able to recognise these, including after a restart. To try to fix it, I removed all Soundfonts from the folder, restarted Musescore, added them all again and restarted Musescore again. Since then Musescore doesn't recognise any of the Soundfonts, even those that were working before!
Things I've tried:
- remove all Soundfonts from the folder except one that I know was working before
- restart computer
- close all existing sheets and restart Musescore with a fresh sheet
- delete the SoundFonts folder in Preferences > General and add it again
- use another SoundFonts folder in Preferences > General
- download a fresh copy of Musescore and run that one
But none of that helped – it still doesn't recognise any Soundfonts. Would appreciate any help here.
I'm using:
OS: macOS 10.15, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.4.2.25137, revision: 148e43f
Thanks!

Also try a "Reset to factory defaults" (from the Help menu) so MuseScore will look in the default folder again. It sounds as if there is some disconnect between the folder where it is looking and where you're placing the soundfonts.

Tried it now; still no success, I'm afraid. Any other suggestions?

For the .sf2 soundfonts you could try double-clicking them from within finder? ISTR that MuseScore is associated with them and tries to install them

Oh, I forgot to mention in the original post that I tried that, too. Now I did it again just to make sure:
So still no luck. Thanks for your assistance so far, though.

Did you go into the Synthesizer to add it, as indicated in that first message?

Ah ha! Somehow I read the start and end of that sentence without catching the stuff in between. Now I've got all the .sf2 files added (though not the .sfz files). I think that's enough for me, but of course if you have any pointers for how to get the rest loaded, too, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks a bunch!

If you now place the sfz and their samples in the expected directory, you should be able to go to the synth, Zerberus tab and add them there.

That did it – thanks!
