Retrograde
i can't find anything searching in handbook for retrograde. i posted a similar inquiry for inversion. i gather neither of these options are available on musescore; is this correct? thanks again. Philip

There's this plugin that attempts retrograde: https://musescore.org/en/project/new-retrograde

thanks very much. curious about the word "attempts"! Anyhow i went to the link above and when i clicked Download i got "not found'. Can you clarify please? thanks again.
is there a plugin for inversion?

There was a typo in the download link, which I've now fixed. So feel free to try again.
I write "attempts" because I happen to know that tuplet handling wasn't supported by the plugin framework when it was written, so it definitely can't handle those. It also seems to be limited to single voice/single staff operation.
I don't see one for inversion on https://musescore.org/en/plugins, so probably not.

i imagine its something like highlight the measure or first and last notes of item to reverse then some signal then click on new location but i don't know what to do or if first something has to be done with the download. please advise. i don't think there are instructions in the handbook but will look again.

Read the handbook, how to install and enable a plugin is described there
In reply to Read the handbook by Jojo-Schmitz
as i said above i read it but i do not understand what i have to do. could you explain carefully what actual steps i need to do to install and enable it in layman's language. would be appreciated as i am counting on it for the piece i am trying to finish before Monday and i still have lots to do.

Assuming you have Windows:
Now, according to the README:
"Make a selection of notes, chords, and/or rests, on a single staff with a single voice, then run NewRetrograde to reverse the selection."

Brer, thanks so very much. this is really helpful.
i do have Windows 10. when i right clicked i did not get something which says README. i have attached a screen shot (i learned how to do THIS last week!). can you tell me which option to follow.
Also, i don't know what is meant by or how to do step 3 to "move" the file into the plugin folder; is this coy and paste or what ?
BTW other than transposing and halving or doubling duration do you happen to know of any other similar automatic compositional devices in musescore?
In reply to Brer, thanks so very much… by Philip Ellis Foster
Sorry if I confused the issue a bit by mentioning the Readme too soon!
Right click the zip folder and choose "Extract all" (my PC doesn't show any other options).
You will then see another folder called "newretrograde-master".
Inside this folder are three files: License, NewRetrograde.qml and Readme
Copy and paste ONLY NewRetrograde.qml into the plugin folder - the Readme just tells you how to use this plugin.
HTH
I'm afraid I don't know of any other such plugins though there may be a list somewhere - I'm an arranger and editor rather than composer.

thanks again. they don't have to be plug-ins; they could be somewhere else on musescore; i found the auto duration by chance.

i right clicked and then clicked ok for the file to go where it said and then i went to musescore and clicked Plugin --Manager and this below is a screen shot of what came up. i do not see the option you suggested.
please advise.

i am including another screen shot which shows which file we are dealing with and it is not identical to the one you said i should choose because that one was not an option.

to be specific, when i right click I i am not getting to the file you mentioned:
"inside this folder are three files: License, NewRetrograde.qml and Readme "
i do not see this file or know how to get to it. i may be doing something wrong or missing a step Kindly advise ASAP. thanks again.Hopefully we will solve this soon.

Right click the zip file and choose "Extract...." -- then click the new folder that will appear and in it you'll find the qml.
If that is not clear then google how to handle a zip file. I'm afraid it's bedtime for me now in Europe - good luck!

when i right click there are 4 options as i think i showed in a screen shot: 1. Open with WINRAR ;2. Extract files .....; 3. Extract here ; and 4. Extract to newretrograde-master/.
Thus there are 3 extract options. i tried it with the 4th and apparently that was wrong. which of the other 3 should i use?
Sorry this is taking so much of your time, i really appreciate your trying to help.

Was Musescore already open? If so, open the Plugin Manager again and click "Reload plugins" near the bottom right. It should then show up in the list. If it doesn't then trying closing and opening Musescore again. If that still doesn't work you may have put the file in the wrong place.

well, poking around i found the file with the .qlm on the end and i copied it but where or how do i find the plugin folder to put it into?

again, poking around i found the file and i pasted it in. now i will re-open musescore, or pray first and then open it.

so i found both retrograde master and also hello qml and i clicked both and they both appear now in the plugin drop down. i guess i will try both and see which if either works for retrograde. Thanks SO VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP !!!

Good morning - glad you got it sorted in the end. I think you'll find that the one called 'retrograde' is the one that works for retrograde - surprise! 'Hello.qml' is one of the ready-installed plugins, and just demonstrates basic tasks. It's all in the Handbook link above......

my internet was down for 3 days so just saw this. it worked fne for a day and now even if i highlght the staves in all 4 voices it only reverses the top voice!

The description explicitly mentions that it only works on a single stave.

thanks. did not know. thought it was working on all for a while.
