pickup notes
composing a score with 3/4 time signature. I want to have only a single quarter note as pickup note ahead of measure #1...how do I eliminate the rests showing after I place the pickup on the staff?

If you know from the start that you need this then use the "anacrusis" option on the time signature page.

You mean the time signature page in the new score wizard.

And use a British English setup ;-)
In American English it is called Pickup Measure
