I think a downsampler would be a nice thing to add, so i can make smaller audio files, and the fact that 16-bit era music was just kinda neat

You can control various aspects of the exported autio in Edit / Preferences / Export. You can also use lower quality soundfonts directly.

The compression on the exporting side doesnt sound nice because it's not the individual waveforms, but the song as a whole gets squashed, muddying the instruments.

All the more reason to simply find a soundfont that already has the sounds you want.
