It looks, like you enter melody into voice 2.
Therefore voice 1 shows rests.
You can hide rests by selecting it and press "v".
But better way would be to exchange voices 1 and 2, so melody would be in voice 1. Then remove voice 2 rests.
Select affected measures, then Tools -> Voices -> Exchange Voice 1-2
