deleting empty staves in a choral arrangement
I have a choral arrangement where some phrases are in unison and some are in 4 part harmony. I'd like to delete the empty staves in the unison sections - how to do this and can I do this??

You don't delete the staves, but you can hide them:
Format >Style >Score >Hide empty staves.

thanks for the advice. I can now work out how to hide the staves BUT not how to apply the changes??
Is there an APPLY button at the bottom of the page??

yes, it is the default one too, so a 'Return' would take the changes you made into effect (and an 'Esc' would dismiss changes you did)

Sounds like either your screen resolution is too low for MuseScore, or else your OS isn't communicating it to MuseScore correctly. Do you also see other things seeming too big - like when viewing your score at 100% zoom, does it seem larger on screen than it would when printed? Do the toolbar or palette icons seem bigger than necessary? What OS? Depending on the answers to these questions, there are ways to fix it.
