You mean use multimeasure rests? Just press M to toggle them on and off.
They are automatically turned on when you generate parts. They are off by default when looking at the main score as if they were on it would make inputting notes difficult.

If you are just starting with MuseScore I recommend you do a speed read of the handbook to find out what MuseScore can do and hopefully when you come to need to do something else tricky you will recall that it was mentioned in the handbook somewhere.
