Reduce staff spacing for refrain
Is there a way to reduce staff space for a portion of a score, when multiple lyric lines are followed or preceded by a single lyric line (as with a refrain)? Attached score shows the incorrect spacing.

I wouldn't call that "incorrect" - it's a common way for published music to be presented, as it makes the spacing more even. But if you prefer more compact arrangement, you can try disabling vertical staff justification in Format / Style / Page, then also reduce the max distance distance to equal the minimum.
