convert vocal music from open score to closed score
I have many vocal scores, most are SATB on 4 open score staffs. I wish to convert them to closed score (SA on one staff, TB on the other. I cannot find (in Help) any way to do it.
Is it possible? Can you tell me how to do it?

One way is outlined in How to merge/combine/implode two staves into one with two voices. But nowadays Tools > Implode should work too
That score was created (or at least last saved) with MuseScore 3.0.3, better update to 3.6.2, if not done already.
Check the attached

Or this, reduced to a single page
Select the contents of the top two staves, then Tools / Implode. Optionally imploe again to combine the two voices if you wish passages with the same rhythm to display as one voice (some editors do this on relatively simple hymn arrangements like this). Repeat for the bottom two staves. Then remove the unneeded staves.

Remove the lyrics from the Alto and Bass staff first, probably also from the Tenor staff
And change Soprano to Women and Tenor to Men, for the correct ranges

How do you replace one instrument (Soprano) to another (Women)? I can’t find an option for that. My workaround was to add Women and Men, and copy the new imploded staffs, and then delete the original SATB staffs.

Right-click the staff, Staf/Part Properties, Change Instrument. Although realistically, when converitng between close and open score, you're adding and removing staves or instruments anyhow, could end up being just as well to do it that way.

Alas I am enough of a beginner that I can't "select the contents of the top two staves".
In the edit menu, select all selects all 4 staves. Select APPEARS to highlight the top staff G cleff, but does nothing else. Documentation might tell me how to do it, but I can't find it anywhere in the SELECT section.

I got it. And your suggestion about deleting words and later deleting Alto and Bass parts make sense too. Thanks. Most helpful.

And the last things I need to do are these:
1. delete both the Alto and Bass staves (since implosion made them redundant - I've already deleted their notes) and
2. fix stem positions of the Bass and Alto parts where they should be down but remain up.

But if need be: select, press X

Oops, I didn't even realize that this was a question.
