Switching to Advanced Palette
I have looked at many other posts on how to switch from the basic to the advanced palette, which generally all tell you to go to the bottom of the palettes and select advanced from the dropdown. However, I do not have this drop-down at all. I am on the most recent version of Musescore.
(Also I would consider myself a novice)
Any help would be appreciated!

You need to change to the Advanced workspace. In the top right side of the screen there should be a dropdown menu (it may be hidden behind an arrow depending on your monitor size). Click on the dropdown where it says "Basic" to change it. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/workspaces

Thank you! From all the other pictures/descriptions I thought it was underneath the palette!

That was where that was in MS2. So make sure you're reading documentation for MS3 if you want to rely on the locations mentioned by it.

And actually, it was there in the first few release of MuseScore 3, I think it moved to where it is now around 3.4 or 3.4? A couple of years ago or so.

How do you do this in musescore 4?

There is (to my knowledge) no default Advanced workspace included in MS4; but you can still use the "Add Palettes" button at top of the palettes to bring all of them back into the main Palette panel as to your liking.
