Playback sound has deteriorated

Playback sounds like metal pieces rolling around the bottom of a garbage can.
I tried uninstalling Musescore & reinstalling -- no dice

I confirmed it's not the computer or the computer speakers -- youtube playback works just fine

Uninstall/reinstall rarely fixes anything. Help / Revert to Factoring Settings might. If not, or if you've done a lot of customizations to your preferences and/or workspaces that you don't want to lose, try playing with other settings in Edit / Preferences / I/O.
