Can different voices in a stave be assigned different instruments?
Hi. I am working with a large chorus score. Some of it includes two different voices in one stave. I know I can edit its dynamics or note length, but I was wondering if there was a way I could change voice 2 so that it has either a different voice or a different tuning? For example, if both Voice 1 and 2 are playing the same note in the same instrument, could I edit just voice 2 via the plugin "Change Instruments", so it plays a different instrument, or re-tune it so all its notes are slightly off-tune (to mimic real life)? I've been unable to find any answer in the User Guide or forum. I checked the mixer and it does not appear to list voice 2 as a separate entry that I can edit.
Thanks in advance.

Take the instrument "Women" or "Men" and the S/A resp. T/B text from the text palette, then 'unfold' those in the mixer and assign different sounds

JoJo: I am so glad there appears to be a way to change voice instruments between voice 1 and 2, but I am completely unaware of how to "unfold" the voice in the mixer. When I assign "T/B" to the dual notes, the mixer does not change or show a way to change instruments. Is there a step-by step procedure in the handbook, or can you list the few steps needed to change voices? I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Frank

Look for the arrow in the top-left of the track area: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/mixer#track-area
This arrow button is only available for instruments that have additional channels; which is why the first step is to ensure using one of those (such as Men/Women). What those S/A & T/B text do is assign voice 1 & 2 to the two subchannels of those instruments. You can create such staff texts yourself as well by going into the Staff Text Properties for one (via context menu) and settings the correct values.

To "unfold" the Voices you need to click on the arrows highlighted below:

Damn: I clicked on each track, and using the Text menu, I clicked on the S/A and T/B text lines for each, just as you showed. Maddeningly, the mixer track arrows did not darken, indicating that two sub-channels had NOT been assigned to each voice. Here is a screenshot:

As mentioned already: you have to use one of the instruments already set up to use multiple channels, such as Men or Women. You can't use the generic Voice instrument, or the Soprano instrument, or most others - it has to be "Women" to use S/A, "Men" to use T/B.

Marc et al: Thanks for the guidance. I had not gleaned that I needed to use Men or Women, rather than solo or alto or ... when trying to reassign new instruments to a 2nd voice. I know now. Thanks again.
