Can't delete slur

• May 27, 2013 - 19:17

Using 1.3 on Windows. I had a tie, added a slur leading into the tie, tie disappeared. I'd like them both, but need the tie worse, so can I just delete the slur? When I select, I get the little squares, one is solid, but delete or edit>delete, right click>delete isn't working. Moving the handles around in edit mode just created a new slur line in a higher position that I also can't delete.

There are two issues here;
1. deleting the slur, which hopefully you have accomplished via instructions given on your other post (and also here).

2. You'd like a slur into a tie: (see attachment)
For that, be sure you have read the instructions in the manual for slurs, as there are a few ways to enter them.
Also, be aware of the difference between a slur and a tie.

Finally, it's a good idea to post an example. You can download my example. Then, in Musescore, you can delete, for instance, the last two measures of the example and enter (or paste) whatever you are having problems with, save it, and post it here..

One other observation: it's usually considered incorrect to slur into the *first* note of a tie as you seem to be trying to do (and the example above shows). Slurs should generally go to the *last note of the tie. So the tie is *within* the slur. Either is possible to create in MuseScore, but you should be in the habit of attaching the end of your slur to the last note of the tie.

Could you write out the trumpet part too, since I'm unfamiliar with writing for brass? ;)

So far, I've just duplicated the Bari part to the tenor part, because I don't always have a barisax show up. I think I'll form the rest of the cord with a tenor 2 part, as well as the alto and trumpet. Better add a trombone line too.

I considered using grace notes, but it seems like the mo-town style is that these are complete eighth notes for a doo-wop sound.

You can listen to grace notes on playback, so you can always create a small, separate score of a few measures to 'experiment' on:

Eighth notes (like you have), or grace notes? (see attachment)

Perhaps a half note on beat 3 in measures 2,3,& 4 instead of a quarter note? etc.

It's all up to you... have fun! ;-)

In case someone is still having a problem with this 9 years later.... Clicking on the slur (single-clicking as suggested) and then hitting Del or Ctrl+Del do not work at all. However, right-click Delete actually works. Maybe something to fix?

Ctrl+Delete definitely is not the right thing, but Delete by itself should be. Most likely you simply had multiple overlapping slurs, and each Delete operation deleted one but left the ones underneath, so it took a few tries to get them all.

If you continue to encounter problems, please attach your score and tell us which slur you are having trouble deleting.
