Musescore 4.0-2
This has just appeared in Manjaro package updates, but I’m getting a mysterious message about “clap-host” being installed. Is this a new dependency of MS or just a co-incidence?
I’m curious because it’s also asking what DAW I want as a “provider” (qtractor vs. reaper), but it seems a bit weird to be installing a whole DAW for some random bit of software that I haven’t chosen to install.
Since neither “clap-host” or either of its possible DAWs are installed it’s hard to tell where it’s coming from.
CLAP = CLever Audio Plugin I think — https://github.com/free-audio/clap

Not familiar with Manjaro, looked it up. distrowatch.org says it uses pacman, snap, and possibly the newest release - flatpack. Might you know which package manager 'supervised' your situation? Just curious.

Musescore itself is in the (main) community repo, so it’s installed by pamac (or pacman).

Like vst3, but open standard. Developed in response to the Steinberg vst 2X license problems.
Could be the new 'standard' (or not)
MuseScore should think about supporting this in the future (after vst3 for Linux has been implemented...:-)

In my setup the installation is forced by zam-plugins-clap, which is forced by zam-plugins.
I am working with ardour and I don't need a second DAW like Qtractor. I don't want someone to give me presents without asking!!!

I completely understand but what can we say. If you don't like the packages from your distribution, you can always install the plugins from source. https://github.com/zamaudio/zam-plugins
Only the lv2 or vst3 or ladspa (or clap). It's your choice.

So it is Musescore that prompted this?
Are these supposed to be usable somewhere in the program?

Nope, nothing to do with Musescore. Vst's are not usable with MS 4 Linux
