accidental tucking
MuseScore 4 seems to automatically tuck accidentals under or over preceding notes when the interval between the notes is big enough to do so without a collision. Is there are a way to turn that off in general, or to turn it off for specific notes or measures? I find it a bit confusing for note reading in general and in some situations with added fingerings it becomes unacceptably confusing. See example.

I guess MS has to make a decision and getting the accidentals in the right place takes priority over other elements. You could consider putting the fingerings below the notes.

Even without fingerings, I find the tucking with absolutely no extra space odd (I'm used to seeing at least a little extra space in editions like Barenreiter and Henle). But, yes, fingerings below the notes in my example would be an option and obviously more readable for that particular spot. However, to keep reading as easy as possible, I fairly strongly prefer to consistently put printed fingerings above notes except in a few special cases (i.e. alternate fingering choices). That comes in part from the string player thing of shared stands in orchestra - outside players write their fingerings only on top, and inside players write their fingerings only below. So we get in the habit of ignoring fingerings below if we are otherwise generally reading fingerings written on top, which means a mix of fingerings above and below (even in a solo or chamber part) doesn't sight-read quite as well for string players. All that to say that it's pretty important to me to have control over whether to tuck fully or not. I saw some earlier discussions and understand that getting the tucking to work probably took a lot of finagling. I just hope it's sorted out enough to make it adjustable...

Hmm, I wouldn't think those publishers would add space unnecessarily. Are you sure they aren't simply widening the measure a little, or putting few measures on the system? Posting a picture of a system showing the kind of layout you are wanting would be useful. But anyhow, you can indeed add extra space using the "leading" adjusting in the Properties panel, as you have discovered.

Hi Marc. I grabbed these from the Telemann Fantasias for solo violin published by Barenreiter. On pg.4 m.42 and pg.5. m22 there are just subtle amounts of extra space between beats. Pg.9 m.28 and pg.12 mm.35-37 have some extra space in examples more similar to what I originally posted.
Now that I figured out how to adjust spots manually, it's not a huge deal. However, it would be nice eventually to have the ability to set style to always add at least a small amount of space even when tucking is possble. Thanks for looking at this.

Interesting. To me this does not look good, but as you say, it's subtle. I wonder how that particular engraver would have handle more complex cases. Anhow, indeed, no reason there couldn't eventually be style settings to customize this. Feel free to open an issue on GitHub suggesting this!

While this tucking behavior makes logical sense, it looks rather strange in my eyes - at least to such degree. The music also becomes harder to read, I think, cause it seems almost like the accidentials belong to the notes below.
I found a local solution. If I select the accidental that is currently over or under the preceding note, then go to Properties, then click Appearance, I can increase the leading space to get what I want. That is a solution and is workable. As far as I can tell, there is no way to make that adjustment an automatic style thing affecting only spots where tucking would otherwise happen.
