MS 4.0.2 D.S. al Fine into 2nd Volta
Picture is a simplification of the score I'm trying to write.
What I want is to play measures
1-2-3-5-2-4,
but what happens is
1-2-3-5-2-3-5
even trying to play from measure 4 results in playing measure 3.

Voltas are alternative endings of simple repeats, not what you intend there

It's how the original score was written, but if it's unorthodox that's fine.

As was said, not with voltas. But the sequence can be achieved this way:
I understand, it was an example. It may not be usefully applicable in a larger score. And it's not like in your original score.

Thank you for the suggestion, and to Jm6stringer as well.
The piece was already solved this way on the musescore library, as it turned out.
However, as a larger piece, the original reads much easier as it doesn't use a second cross cutting jump,
and I assume that's why it was written as it is.
I'll keep both, or just unroll it altogether, for practice.
Modifying voltas to regard segno/capo jumps would probably break to many other scores' playbacks to be a feature, but I'm happy knowing why it didn't work.
Thank you again.

Okay, so instead of 'measures', let us call them 'sections'.
If you want sections 1-2-3-4-5 to play as 1-2-3-5-2-4, first move section 4 to the end of the score so that the score (temporarily) plays 1-2-3-5-4.
Now, since you want section 2 also to play between sections 5 and 4...
1. Place a Segno (symbol) at the beginning of section 2
2. Place a D.S. al Coda at the end of section 5
3. Place a To Coda at the end of section 2
4. Place a Coda (symbol)) at the beginning of section 4.
Here's what happens (follow HileK's picture above):
The score plays 1-2-3-5 then, at the end of 5, honors the 'D.S.' part of D.S. al Coda and jumps to the Segno (symbol) at 2.
Upon reaching the To Coda at the end of 2, it jumps to the Coda (symbol) at 4 which gets played last.
So, 1-2-3-5-2-4 is played as you wish.
