Choppy Replay
I update to MuseScore4 and nothing I saved plays back without being choppy. I tried using MuseScore3 to play them again, and it kept ending in an error code and would not play. What is going on?

MU4 requires higher system specs that MU3. For now, try leaving the mixer open and in Edit>Preferences>I/O, raise the buffer size to 4096. There are other things to try also.
To play this file in MU3 open it in MU4, safe as xml. that should open in MU3.

There are also known issues with playback with 48 kHz sample rates (see #18701, this thread), so make sure to check for these.

There can be many things to consider. If you are on Windows, take a look here: https://musescore.org/en/node/339915
Depending on the audio device, Hz isn't the only consideration. Bit rate is important. When you get to that page, try lowering the setting one notch, and test. Lower one notch at a time until playback is good. I had to go to CD Quality on one of my systems. And uncheck Exclusive mode.
See https://musescore.org/en/node/352635. The usual recommended fix is to set your audio device sample rate to 44.1 kHz. Whether that works or not for you, please respond in that thread and provide the requested info, to help us diagnose what might be happening. We'd very much like to figure out why this happens on some systems, so we need help from the people who experience this issue!

Marc,
Thanks for the information. I set device (Lenovo desktop) to 44.1 kHz. Tried both CD and studio settings at that level. Some improvement noticeable, but not fixed.
