How can I reduce the strength of the pedal effect? It makes the trill sound a bit unrealistic.

I don't think you can change the pedal effect. You might make it end before the grace notes.
Although I'm not sure you need it at all.

Is there a workaround/hack to achieve the same result? I don’t want to remove the pedal effect.

AFAIK there is no way to adjust the effect. Yet.
So, ask yourself how a real player would play this?
There are limitations. You've already discovered that at this tempo, you have to write out the trill.
