Playback tempo is double of tempo marking

Just started using Musescore 4 (4.2) and opened an old score from MS 3. It played in double speed, so I thought there was something wrong with the old score, but when I created a new score it also plays exactly double up from the tempo marking. How do I make it playback in proper tempo?

You will for sure get a better answer or solution if you attach your actual score (.mscz file). There's not much info in an image...

Here is a simple score, C major scale with tempo marking set to 78 BPM. It plays in 156 BPM on my computer. Have to set the marking to 39 BPM to get correct playback speed. I also checked properties for the tempo marker, I can see that there is a "Follow written tempo" checkbox, but it is checked. Also, the tempo slider is set to 100 %. Hope you have a solution for me.

Your score plays as expected for me. Check your audio device sample rate (settings are usually somewhere in your OS, or in the software that came with the device if purchased separately). Sometimes very high sample rates (eg, 96 kHz or above) will cause problems, so try something more standard like 44.1 kHz. Usually if this is the problem, the pitch will also be too high.

If that doesn't help, try File / Publish to musescore.com, and see if the exported audio is correct or not. If not, post the link to the score on musescore.com here so we can hear.

I am having the same problem. When I checked the audio sample rate, it is 48000, but I cannot switch to a lower sample rate, the 48000 is the only option permitted for my Bose USB audio speakers. I have been generating MuseScore 4 scores ever since it was released, without an issue, but now every score I attempt to play has the doubled pitch and tempo. Any other ideas?

I've got the same problem. I think its a bug. All scores from MS 3 play double time with scratchy pitched sounds in MS 4 (Windows). The same scores in MS4 (Mac-OS-Version) work fine. Can't work like this with Windows-Version at the moment...

Edit: Checked again and it's not double time its tripple time. If I set the tempo to 30% the tempo is almost right but the sound is still pitched and doesn't change lower.

I had problems finding out how to change the sample rate. I tried the control panel for my sound card, which seemed to be the place to go, but there was only one sample rate available.
So, in Windows 10, try it like this:

  1. Right click your speaker icon in the right section of the taskbar and select "Open sound settings" and then under your active output device, click the link "Device properties".

  2. To the right, click the link "Additional device properties".

  3. This will open the old fashioned Properties dialogue box, select the tab "Advanced". Here you hopefully have a plethora of sample rates to choose from.

I am delighted to report that the new MuseScore 4..4.3 has finally fixed this issue (for me and hopefully all others) ! I assume it must have been a tough issue to have taken so long, but thank you to everyone who had a hand in getting this version out to the community. I have had a great day listening to some arrangements that I input over the past year, but never got to hear until today...
