Instrument only shows one note

• Sep 1, 2024 - 22:06

Hi, I just downloaded musescore 4.4 and when I opened it the violoncellos was only written with a's in a percussion clef. I tried to open a back up file but musescore couldn't open it. I tried changing the clef back to a bass clef but that also didnt work. I do not think I changed the clef to a percussion clef because when I tried to change the clef back to percussion it just did not do that. When I select a note it could not recongnize it's pitch. Surprisingly the playback still played the right notes. I use windows.

The musicxml stems from MuseScore 4.4.0, created yesterday.

MuseScore 3.6.2 reports an error:
Fatal error: line 494 column 53 Element direction contains unknown attribute system.
Culprit XML:

      <direction placement="above" system="only-top">
        <direction-type>
          <words>Molto accel.</words>
          </direction-type>

Maybe this is a MusicXML 4.0 thing, while MuseScore 3.6.2 supports only MusicXML 3.0.
It then shows a 2-staff violoncellos with percussion clefs.

My MuseScore 3.7 Evolution, which does support MusicXML 4.0, reports:
Fatal error: line 60818 column 17 Element alter is not defined in this scope.
Culprit XML:

      <note default-x="58.37" default-y="-436.59">
        <unpitched>
          <display-step>F</display-step>
          <alter>0.5</alter>
          <display-octave>5</display-octave>
          </unpitched>
        <duration>240</duration>
        <instrument id="P5-I37"/>

This seems to be a bug, in Mu4, but may happen because of that wrong clef, as that is in the violoncelos part.
It then shows a single-staff violoncellos with a percussion clef.

MuseScore 4.4.0 doesn't report any error, but it doesn't do that schema validation (known issue).
It shows a single-staff violoncellos with a percussion clef, same as 3.7.

MuseScore 4.4.0 crashes on the mscz... on the 1st attempt, can't reproduce again though.

Instead of only changing the clef, change the instrument too, to Violoncellos, that fixes the songle note issue.

" while MuseScore 3.6.2 supports only MusicXML 3.0."

For my information, and because I read this kind of request on other (guitar) forums, Musescore 4 (says last version 4.4) still supports MusicXML 3.0. or already (?) MusicXML 4.0.?
How/where do we know?
