Creating score

• Oct 3, 2024 - 06:36

So I've heard a lot of good things about musescore as a free music composition platform. I downloaded the current version of the app onto my chromebook laptop. However I have no clue as to how to create a score. I've looked it up, and none of the instructions seem relevant (probably most users aren't on chromebook), but there really does not seem to be any option to create a score. The only reasons I can possibly think of that this is the case is either that I'm on a chromebook (maybe the feature isn't supported on chromebooks, in which case why is it even an option to get the app on chromebooks at all), or that I'm using the free version of the app, which is incredibly perplexing to me, as I was under the impression that it was still an option to create and edit scores even with the free version of the app. I've attached a screenshot of what my app looks like. Could someone please tell me what is going on? I really just want to make a score.

First of all, that is not a browser. That is an app I downloaded from the google play store. I have also followed several sets of instructions to download musescore (different versions, etc) and they have all taken me to that same screen. Also what do you mean there’s no free version of musescore studio? What’s the difference between musescore and musescore studio? Are you basically just saying there’s no way to edit scores for free?

I downloaded that. When I opened it, it took me to the screen shown in the attached screenshot. Believe me, I’m just as confused about this as you are. Also sorry for the confusion about musescore studio being free or not, I haven’t had any coffee and I just am not reading things right currently.

No you haven't downloaded "that" as in the link Jojo provided.
You have used the Google Play Store.
Don't do that.
2 different stuff exists :
-a player, working on Android and iOS only, called MuseScore, and only allowing to view and play scores. NOT to create edit them. That player app has a free and a paid version. This is what you show in your screen capture.
-a program for Windows, macos, linux, called MuseScore studio. This one allows to create and edit score and is free. Paying for the app will NOT get you a better version of MuseScore studio, there is only one single fully free version of MuseScore studio.

You find that confusing ? Everybody does, and some years ago MuseScore studio was just called MuseScore, like the app, both the same name...
So that was even more confusing...
