Musescore 4 is not opening

• Mar 31, 2024 - 22:42

I'm trying to open MuseScore, it does show the splash screen, but then the program itself isn't opening. Absolutely nothing appears on screen, no matter how many times I try to open some of the scores I have saved.

Windows only and only for advanced users:

If you've tried opening it several times, it's POSSIBLE that this might help.
Open the Windows Task Manager. (Depending on your version of Windows, there are half a dozen different ways to do this. If you don't already know how to open the Task Manager, you probably should try.) Go the Details tab. Sort the list by the Name column. Slide down the list to the "M"s. If there are any entries for "MuseScore.exe", "MuseScore3.exe", or "MuseScore4.exe", right-click and "End Task" on each one. Once they are all gone, try launching MuS again.

This is definitely a case of if it's going to work, it'll work the first time. Don't bother trying a second time, just go on to something else.

I have installed the nightly build, and it opened. But before I could open any of my MuseScore projects, it got stuck. So I closed it but I can't find the icon for it. The icon I had before still doesn't open. How do I find and open this nightly build? Sorry, I'm relatively computer illiterate. I may be asking a very basic question.....

The thing with the Nightly Builds is that they are not really installed on your computer; that is convenient because then you can easily throw them away when you don't need them anymore. But it also means that you won't get an icon for them on your desktop.

To run the nightly build, you had extracted the .7z file, right? That should give you a folder; inside that folder is a bin folder, and inside that bin folder there is a MuseScore4.exe. Double-click MuseScore4.exe to launch it.
