CREATING TWO SERARATE PARTS FROM A SINGLE LINE

• Oct 29, 2024 - 06:22

I am using MuseScore 4 - and I want to create two seperate parts from a line
which contains two voices. Eg: From Flute 1. & 2. (a single line) I want to make
two parts. I have been able to make another copy of the part - but can't make
one part invisible. I have looked up the MS4 Handbook - but my computer will
only show a list of the Parts in the Instruments Panel but not a way to choose
to make one voice Invisible. I have hunted around the MuseScore 4 but cannot
find a way to make seperate parts. Any ideas? Jeff

If I understand correctly: Create a second, empty flute system and apply Tools -> Explode to the first system with the two voices.

Hi Hildek,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I created a second copy of the line and exploded it.
The second voice vanished from both parts.
So, I am halfway there!
How do I get to explode only one part
and in the other copy delete the other voice.
I am grateful for furthger help! Jeff

Have you written the two flutes as voices 1 and 2 on the same line, i.e. voice one stems up and voice 2 stems down? You don’t have to create a second copy of the line to be able to explode it.

See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/working-multiple-voices and
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/implode-and-explode#explode

If it still doesn’t work then post your score (or just a few bars of it) here, so that others can see what is happening.

Dear Brer Fox,
Yes, I have two Flutes as voice 1 and 2 on the same line.
Voice 1 stems up - voice 2 stems down.
Thanks for the "Working with multiple voices" information.
I am still trying to work out how to do it.
I still don't know how to post my score so others can see
what is happening. I'll keep you posted - and let you know
when I have worked it out! Jeff

CREATING TWO SEPARATE PARTS.
I have just completed Flute 1 and Flute 2 as separate parts.
BUT it was very detailed and tiresome work.
1. I created a copy of the two parts on a serarate document.
2. Exploded one part. (The other would not explode to the second part)
3. I worked through the second copy (note by note) Deteting Flute 1. parts
4. I went through Deleting the rests for part 1. with "V"
5. Fixed the slurs to correct way up (Toggle with "X")
I know that several people have made good suggestions
about this problem - but none of them work for me.
I will keep trying and let you know if I succed.

MuseScore 4 allows the creation of individual parts from staves that contain multiple voices.
Open this file:
Full score.mscz
and then click the Flute 1 tab to open the Flute 1 part. Go to the Instruments panel and
click on the triangular dropdown icon next to "Flute 1". This will expose "Treble clef".
Click the settings icon (gear) next to "Treble clef" and you can see that voice 1 is selected to be visible.
Do the same for the Flute 2 tab to verify that there voice 2 is selected to be visible.

See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/parts#choose-which-voices-appear-in…
which explains in more detail.

To all MuseScorers who have helped, I have finally managed to create two separate
parts from a single line with two voices. Part of the problem was that the Musescore
I have looks rather different - and names are often different, but I am pleased to say
that I have finally achieved the task. Thank you for your patience and support. Jeff
