Instrument name on parts pages
When making parts from a score, if there are multiple pages to the part, the instrument name appears nowhere on the second and following pages. I.e., I've written string quartet music, made the parts, and would like to print them for performers to play live. After the first page of the violin I part the term "Violin I" appears nowhere on the following pages. Am I missing something? Shouldn't the instrument be noted on an individual page of music? Like near a page number on the printed sheet?: "page 2 violin I".
Thanks for your help!

add "$:partName:" to footer or header, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/layout-and-formatting#style-edit-gene… and https://musescore.org/en/handbook/score-properties

Is this actually working? I've tried it many times, but it doesn't work for me. I've also tried other possibilities such as $i, but that doesn't work either. I also tried it on the individual parts, closed MS and reopened, but no luck.
Thanks in advance.
p.s. I'm trying use this for Parts, so maybe I've misunderstood something?

"$:partName:" works in parts only
And should still do, 6 years later

" I'm trying use this for Parts, so maybe I've misunderstood something?"
As Jojo stated, it does indeed work for parts:
1. Click the Parts button, then click Open All.
2. Open the tab for relevant Part.
3. Menu path: Format > Style... > Header & Footer
4. In your chosen header or footer for that instrument part, enter $:partName:

Yes it's already done, thanks.
In fact, the problem was that I'd assumed that by putting those meta tags in the Header & Footer section of the Score, would also put them in the parts. However, I now see that is not the case, and you have to do that for every part, which in my opinion is a bit of an odd idea. Maybe in future that could be changed in an update, and the Header & Footer section (in the score) has the possibility to put all that information in the parts as well.

But there is an "Apply to all parts button" which does that once you have set up a single part. Very often formatting of parts needs to be different from that of the score.
