second voice struggle

• Dec 22, 2024 - 18:37

I have being trying to input an old scroll I have into MS. Yet, am failing on this part (attached).

Does anyone have an idea how this can be added? When entering the second voice (1/4), under the first three 16-ths, it sticks directly under the second 1/16. Why?

A similar problem occurs, on the 5/32s. Here I unless I select 1/32 for the second voice, it doesn't overlap w the above 1/32 note. Why?

Or can those be a triplet and a quintet? Even so I tired, but here I can't enter a second voice at all, when pressing alt+2 after having selected for example the second 1/26 (in the first three 1/16s)

Thanks that looks better, but the first three are 1/16s and not 1/32s. as result I have a 1/8 rest which doesn't belong to the melody and time signature.

Another question I have, when looking at the paper scroll the second voice under high A and Bb (second and third of those three 1/16th ) is between them. Is this some sort of style or does this affect the playing?

" They did what ever they wanted whether it adds up or not."

Absolutely! And this is why we can't draw conclusions from the spacing and positioning of the notes in this old edition:

MuseScore makes a real effort to keep the spacing more consistent:

OK> Good luck.

Measure number

  1. Enter the two notes in voice 1
  2. Enter eighth note rests in voice 2
  3. Enter the 16ths and 32nd notes in voice 2. Select the first 32nd and break beam left.
9 Flip voice 1 stems and then voice 2 stems.
  4. Select the F in voice 1. Go to Properties>Appearance and change the Offset to move the note left.
  5. Open the Master Palette. Select Symbols. Scroll down to Flags and drag a quarter note flag to the score. Scroll to Stems and drag a stem to the score.
  6. Put a staccato over the last E. Drag it next to the note.
  7. Posution the stem and flag on that same note. Place the Hold. You'll need to flip it and drag it up. Deleat the first 8th rest (voice 2). You can only make the voice 1 rest invisible

These things do not always hold their position if there are certain kinds of changes to the score. So I don't know how worth while this is.

bobjp - thaaaank you!
I was missing the offset (shift right). And it worked now perfectly.

I have one more, rather theoretical question.

If I create a 1/8 note and then make out of it a triplet of 16ths, why am I not able to create the second voice out of any of it's triplet notes?
What's the rule , which MS is following here?

Indeed. Triplets are a problem. If you select the entire triplet and try to make it voice 2, it doesn't work. However if you select the triplet and go to Tools>voices>Exchange voices 1-2, then the triplet will change to voice 2. Doesn't work with individual notes of the triplet. That's all I know.
