Corrupted file help

• Feb 1, 2025 - 01:28

Greetings

I've been working on a chanson in MS 4 for several months now. However, yesterday morning, when I tried to open it, MS 4 warned me that it was corrupted. I tried to force it to load, but it just never loaded anything. I also tried that backup file in the hidden folder & that was also corrupted. So now I don't know what to do. I transcribed it from the original manuscript (Escorial IV.a.24), and I don't want to go through the whole process again. Can someone please help me?

So sorry, buddy... the file is full of zeros, there is nothing that can be recovered. :(
Would you please attach your diagnostic files? Go to menu Diagnostics -> Save diagnostic files.

Thanks so much. The diagnostic files contain the log files of MuseScore which enable us to see what's been going on within MuseScore. Looking at your files, I see nothing disturbing, there are no save errors. However, they don't go far back far in time and there is not a successful open of this score in them. Can you remember (roughly) when was the last time you were able to open this score? And when did you update MuseScore to version 4.4.4? The reason I am asking is because 4.4.4 check the files for corruption after save so I am trying to find out if the corruption happened before 4.4.4 (otherwsise 4.4.4 should have caught it).

I believe the last time I opened the music was at most 3 days ago, though I don't remember when I upgraded to 4.4.4. Although I didn't expect it to work, I tried to open it in an older version I had, which didn't work. At this point, I really don't think I can do anything other than to start over again, which I really didn't want to do so far into completing it. But since I might as well check, here is the backup file that was generated. I don't think it will help, but I might as well.
