Staff Text Re-anchoring issue

• May 1, 2025 - 16:20

Hey there, I'm having an issue when trying to move text around. It seems to re-anchor at the slightest shift, even several staves up. It will then refuse to re-anchor to the staff it was originally on. I just have to Command+Z and leave it. I saw something that said "Alt" will allow you to move it without re-anchoring, but tried Control, Option, and Command on my Mac and nothing. Any way to fix this? Thank you!

Apparently some people felt the need for automatic Staff Text re-anchoring. It works better now laterally in 5.2 without excessive affect, though I'm a little surprised that it anchors both fore and aft each notehead. And I still don't like the way it jumps staves.

But, we really needed this? What significant use cases did it address? I was unable to find the Github request. Does anyone know its whereabouts?

Took me a while to find the antidote:

• On MacOS, Command Drag provides the previous behavior—where the Staff Text is repositioned around a fixed anchor point.

• So it's likely the Windows antidote is Control Drag.

The horizontal drag issue was resolved in 4.5.2. So maybe try 4.5.2.

Vertical drag is still problematic in 4.5.2 in my opinion.

Rather than the Text automatically re-anchoring whenever I drag it across the midway point, I'd prefer to drag with a modifier key (Cntrl/Cmd drag) when I want to explicitly invoke re-anchoring.
