Handbell Soundfont

• Nov 1, 2017 - 18:49

I'm trying to write a piece for a church handbell choir, and all of the soundfonts I've tried sound terrible. They don't ring like handbells, and have horrible sounding overtones that I've never heard from handbells. I switched to piano to listen as I write, but I'd like to hear what true handbells sound like on the piece before I give it to the choir. Any suggestions?

Here's what the Internet Archive has for that post:
The "HandBells.sf2" Soundfont by FMJ Software (http://www.fmjsoft.com/siframe.html) is a fantastic resoucre. Simply download the font (Hand Bells.sf2) and copy it into you MuseScore sounds directory (possibly "C:\Program Files\MuseScore\sound"). To use the soundfont, simply display the synthesizer (Display-->Synthesizer) and then use the Mixer (Display-->Mixer) to change to the handbell sample.
