Assuming you've added the trill as a Line not just used the articulation, drag and drop the flat sign from the palette to the trill.

I tried that and It worked, but is there any way to have it play back?

Adding a hidden/silent note of the desired pitch in another voice will trick MuseScore into using that for the trill as well.
