loading an sf2 soundfont file
I am using MuseScore 2.0.3 on Linux. I downloaded 040 Florestan String Quartet from dev.nando.audio/pages/soundfonts.html, unzipped the 040_Florestan_String_Quartet.zip file, and put the resulting 040_Florestan_String_Quartet.sf2 file in my /usr/share/mscore-2.0/sound
directory.
From the MuseScore Synthesizer's Fluid tab, I click the Add button and I see 040_Florestan_String_Quartet.sf2 right under FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3 in the list of files to choose from. I click on it and I get a message box with "Cannot load /usr/share/mscore-2.0/sound/040_Florestan_String_Quartet.sf2".
Am I missing a step? Is there something different about sf2 files?
Thanks,
Bob

It isn't recommend to save any file in the /usr directory if not necessary.
The right path is in your home directory in /Documents/MuseScore2/Soundfonts to extract the soundfont.

OK, I see on musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfonts-and-sfz-files that it was just showing me where the existing FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3 file was and that I was supposed to to put the new one in ~/Documents/MuseScore2/Soundfonts, so I did that.
But, the exact same thing happens to me when I try to load the sf2 file, except that the message box error now says "Cannot load SoundFound /home/bob/Documents/MuseScore2/Soundfonts/040_Florestan_String_Quartet.sf2". Could it just be a bad sf2 file, or is there something else I can try?
Thanks,
Bob

Just downloaded and extracted the same file from the same source - I can load and use the soundfont without any problems or error messages (OpenSuse Leap 42.1).
Check if revert to factory settings (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/revert-factory-settings) fixes the problem.

I tried reverting to factory settings, but that didn't help.
The default string sounds are actually pretty good, and I was just curious about the Florestan ones, so I don't need to push any further with it. I do appreciate your efforts.
Thanks,
Bob
