Musescores crashes
When editing instruments (deleting an instrument, adding news ones and moving the new ones up to where I want them, after pressing OK, the program crashes (sometimes, not always). Why, and is there a solution for this?

The most likely due to this known issue: #85046: Crash when adding/removing an instrument in Continuous view after autosave
The safier way to avoid this is to toggle in Page view before adding/deleting instruments.

FWIW
I used to get crashes often when using edit instruments (adding an instrument). But a while ago I unchecked the auto save box in the preferences, and since then I haven't had a crash when adding an instrument.

Indeed, but autosave is a way to prevent loosing your work if Musescore crashes. So, do not forget to save the score manually (and regularly).
So, for inexperienced or novice users (or simply to avoid the consequence of an oversight) , it is more cautious to leave the default (ie, auto save enabled) as is, and know that the Page view avoids the problems related to this issue.
