Guitar pro files
I use Guitar Pro files in Musescore to get the notation and rhythms for songs. I want to display the notation in the "real" octave not the octave above as is usual in guitar music. The normal transpose does not do what I require as it transposes the playback as well as the notation. (The same thing happens in Tux Guitar). Any help would be much appreciated.

Depending on how your particular score is notated, you either want to change the clef from treble-8 to regular treble, or you want to change the transposition setting in Staff Properties, or you may need to just press the Concert Pitch button. If you attach your score we can tell you for sure which of these will do the trick, if you need further assistance.

Thanks Marc changing the Clef did the trick. I have tried to find out how to change the Treble Clef to a Grand Staff but I cannot see how to do it. Could you help me with this? Many thanks

To simy add a staff, see Edit / Instruments. To have MuseScore attempt to split your music into two staves for you, try right-click / Split Staff.

Thanks for help Marc
If you are changing instruments, then copy and paste and the notes will be displayed in the proper octaves. For the guitar there are multiple options, Guitar (treble clef) properly transposes the guitar, all of the others use the transposed treble clef with an 8 under it, just replace this with a clean treble clef and the notes will be in the correct octave. I'm not sure which one Guitar Pro imports as, but you can change the instrument with one that has the 8 under it then use the treble clef.
