midi note entry problems
with Mscore 1 on linux I have the following issue -
when i select a rest and press N and play a midi note an error comes up saying "No note selected. Please select a single note and retry operation.".
i have to create a note with the mouse first then i can add notes with the midi keyboard but Mscore just enters a chord, not successive notes.
Is this a Bug?

Hi,
I realize this issue is a year old, but I was having the same problem and this was the first result Google gave me. I'm running Xubuntu 11.10 and MuseScore 1.1. Plugged in MIDI keyboard for the first time, went into note entry mode, and then got that message. When I wasn't in note entry mode I could play the keyboard and have it processed into audio through the soundfont.
I fixed the problem by toggling off and on the MIDI Input button. I've only had to do this once; the problem hasn't recurred.
Best,
Ian

Funny, this just happened to me. When I restarted MuseScore, it started working fine again.
Hi. I am new to Musescore and just got my MIDI keyboard set up for MIDI entry. I was initially very excited at how quickly MIDI helps me enter notes. But then I started encountering this same problem as Geoff: "when i select a rest and press N and play a midi note an error comes up saying "No note selected. Please select a single note and retry operation.". i have to create a note with the mouse first then i can add notes with the midi keyboard but Mscore just enters a chord, not successive notes." EXACT same problem for me. As the other commentors said, this issue can be temporarily resolved by pressing the MIDI button off and then on again OR by going out of the musescore program and back in again. However, these temporarily fixes get tiresome, especially when I have to do them over and over again as every time I go out of note entry mode and back in again, I am back to the irksome message "No note selected. Please select a singe note and retry operation." Has anyone found a permanent fix to this problem???? thank you!!

Hi, closing the play panel (F11 toggles it) seems to help here (Musescore 1.3 Revision 5702).

use real time automatic note input mode and use the arrow keys to go back and forth between beats

You are responding to posts from years ago, a time when Real Time Automatic input did not exist.
I get the same problem in Windows 7 using the drumset staff with a Roland A-500S. Pushing the midi button doesn't help, I have to restart to fix it. Revision 1.3.5702.
